About Washington, D.C. Support Group Leader

James Roberson

James Roberson is an inspirational figure who has turned his personal health struggle into a powerful message of resilience and empowerment. Diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) at the age of 22, James faced a debilitating autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in the spine and can lead to chronic pain and limited mobility. Despite the challenges of managing AS, he has worked to not only cope with the condition but also use his experience to inspire and motivate others.

In his journey, James focused on shifting the narrative around chronic illness and pain. He developed a mindset of “turning pain into power,” using his story to encourage others facing similar struggles to find strength, perseverance, and hope. His personal transformation led him to share his experiences and insights, helping others understand that while living with AS can be difficult, it doesn’t have to define someone’s potential. In 2024, James took his commitment to helping others to the next level by founding a support group specifically for those living with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

His aim was to create a community where people could connect, share their experiences, and offer support to one another in navigating the difficulties of living with a chronic condition. He emphasizes the importance of mental resilience, educating members about the value of maintaining a positive mindset, and finding strength through adversity. Through social media, speaking engagements, and other platforms, James Roberson has become a beacon of strength for many.

He advocates for awareness around autoimmune diseases like Ankylosing Spondylitis and supports others in finding ways to live a full, active life despite the challenges posed by chronic conditions. His focus is not just on overcoming physical obstacles, but on maintaining a positive and determined mindset in the face of adversity. James Roberson’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and the ability to transform one’s circumstances into a force for personal growth and empowerment.
