After living with symptoms for more than 20 years, Charlotte Zeman was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis in 2012 at the age of 41. Currently in her mid-50s, Charlotte is an SAA support group leader serving Long Island and NYC. Whether by zoom or in-person, people who have spondylitis benefit from connecting with others walking through similar journeys. Listening, sharing, and learning about spondylitis can bring peace of mind and empathy among members.
A teacher for 30+ years, Charlotte has also been a caregiver to several loved ones. Presently, she is honored and blessed to be the main caregiver for a parent. Being the source of support and advocacy for a loved one can be challenging for the average person, let alone a person with SpA. Charlotte relies on her faith, immediate family members, and healthcare team to live her best AS life while also being a caregiver.
