About the Award

This is a Spondyloarthritis Research Grant recognizing outstanding contributions to the care and understanding of patients with spondyloarthritis. This is an annual award. The amount of the award has increased over the years. The award amount is currently $30,000 research grant toward axial spondyloarthritis research. The award may not be used for indirect costs. 

Who should apply?

MDs and PhDs at level of Instructor or Assistant Professor currently working at a US institution, who have contributed to the care and understanding of patients with spondyloarthritis.

What do I need to apply?

Please use the form below to submit your basic contact information plus your curriculum vitae, a one-page personal statement discussing accomplishments and plans, and one letter of nomination from a senior investigator. Please include a statement describing how the money will be used within the year.

What are my commitments if I receive the award?

• • • Help explain your work to people living with spondylitis by being available to SAA staff for a short interview regarding your work and the way this award will help support ongoing research. The ensuing articles will be published in Spondylitis Plus magazine and/or various SAA online outlets including a news press release.
    • Provide a brief summary of key findings at the end of the year, and if not fully completed within a year, again at the conclusion of the research.
    • Acknowledge SAA funding in any publications/posters produced as a result of this award.
    • Share the good news! Your institution is to make an announcement of the award in its publication for general distribution. This could be included in an e-newsletter, on its website, or through another vehicle.
