What is Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)?

Description

Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NY-tis sup-yur-uh-
TEE-vuh), or HS, is a chronic inammatory skin disease.
It causes painful, pimple-like lesions or boil-like bumps
that tend to appear where skin rubs together, such as the
armpits, groin, under the breasts, and buttocks.
❖ Lesions may rupture and drain pus or blood
❖ Healing often leaves scars or tunnels (sinus tracts)
under the skin
❖ HS is not contagious and not caused by poor hygiene
Even mild HS can be painful and disruptive. Severe HS
may interfere with work, social life, and emotional
well-being.
