About Orlando's Support Group Leaders

Susan Brogan

Susan Brogan is a mostly retired Clinical Psychologist who was diagnosed with AS in 2000. A host of related autoimmune diagnoses have followed, and Dr. Brogan has spent years reading up on and studying AS and the many related conditions that can accompany a spondyloarthritic condition.

As an AS Warrior, I am very interested in sharing knowledge with others and learning all I can from our shared experiences. I believe we can all encourage each other in our daily battles with these diseases. Through the years since my diagnosis, I have tried several different approaches to treatment and I am always willing to help others learn to listen to their bodies so they can develop individualized treatment plans with their own medical care teams.

Susan Brogan is married and lives in the central Florida area. Two of her three grown daughters are also symptomatic and she is very interested in spreading awareness and encouraging advocacy for fellow AS Warriors.

Several years ago, I worked in a grocery store as a home shopper. This meant multiple laps around the entire store all day long. Not long after switching to this role, I developed Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot. Almost a year later, I had surgery for that and immediately had pain in my other foot, followed by my shoulder. Finally, I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis with spondylitis.

I turned to the internet to find any support I could and to find local friends with the same issues, which I did. I moved a few years later and found an SAA group which has been amazing! My new “normal” now consists of a biologic (on my 4th), MTX injections, handcycling, and a love for advocacy and helping others.

I’m super excited to be joining SAA as a new support group leader!

I’ve been married for 20+ years to my husband Erik (who attends every meeting with me), and mom to two wonderful kids, my daughter who is in college and my son in high school. I love knitting, cooking, and racing at Disney World.
